Lawrence Eric Agyeman
"My name is Lawrence Eric Agyeman and I am a painter. I was born in Kumasi in 1974. My friends describe me as calm, caring and creative.

"I began painting in 1992 when I became interested because my older brother is also an artist. I admired his and other painters' works when I saw them. I would go home and draw after seeing something nice or anything that caught my eye in town.

"I learned art in school. Then, I became an apprentice and continued practicing techniques. I mastered this art by creating my own unique style of painting and drawing. I love to paint, which has attracted many people to me. I've always sketched whatever that came to mind and hated being idle. Today, I've taught more than 30 students of my own.

"Starting on my own was easy with my teacher's help. My dad also built a studio for me to use. I started off by designing sign boards.

"I now paint from home. I really like the cartoon style I've adopted. The most challenging thing about my art is the buying enough materials for my work. One of the difficult times I experienced was when I couldn't find a place to sell my paintings and had to sit at home for six years.

"Once when I was going to visit my girlfriend, I arrived at her house and realized she was sitting in front of the house with her friends. As I was approaching to greet them, I slipped in front of them and refused to stand up.

"My inspiration comes from my environment and stories. I hope is to sell more of my artwork and own a gallery in future."
