Beloved Son

With this painting, Ghanaian artist Alex Mensah tells a story: 'After years of childlessness, God smiles on her and blesses her with a son. Out of gratitude, she adores him and carries him wherever she goes.' Mensah paints this scene in an expressionist style, primarily utilizing hues of brown to depict the mother as she balances a pot on top of her head, her child slung over her back in the traditional fashion.
