Mayan Shaman

Intermediaries between humans and the gods, shamans represented an important part of Mayan culture. El Salvador's Oscar Rodolfo Mendoza creates this Mayan shaman mask, which is handcrafted from ceramic and painted by hand with natural brown and red pigments derived from the achiote plant. Mayan glyphs decorate the top of this mask. A nylon cord on the back allows it to be hung on a wall.
