Working in sese wood, Ghanaian artisan Joseph Boateng hand-carves this striking African sculpture. The sculpture depicts the face of a woman, given a black finish. At her forehead, embossed aluminum creates the image of a bird. Earrings of cotton and recycled glass dangle from her earlobes. Joseph names the sculpture Abena, an Akan name for a woman born on Tuesday.
