(You save )
Representing protection, jaguars were exalted in ancient Mayan culture. El Salvador's Oscar Rodolfo Mendoza creates this mask, which is crafted of ceramic and painted by hand with naturally-derived pigments from the achiote plant. An old man, face decorated with red face paint, wears earrings and a hat with jaguar spots. A nylon cord on the back allows this mask to be hung on a wall.
